Searching the Ebsco Host Online Databases

Navigate to MU's Library Page. Select journal finder tab and advanced search to locate the databases associated with the EBSCO Host Electronic Journals Service. You can view journals alphabetically or by discipline.

NOTE: Realize that Misericordia community members only are given entrance to paying databases (such as Ebsco Host). To search off-campus, you will be prompted to enter your e-MU user name and password.

Journals Available

The Bevevino Library at Misericordia University provides access to many online journals and periodicals. EBSCO Host is a large electronic journal service that is offered free-of-charge to MU students and faculty. Following is a list of some of the electronic databases popular and useful to educators:
  1. Academic Search Ultimate (EBSCO):
    Multidisciplinary database that indexes over 8400 journals and provides full text to over 4600 journals dating back to 1865. Provides access to peer reviewed journals.
  2. ERIC:
    Education Resources Information Center includes journal articles as well as ERIC documents dating back to 1910.
  3. Middle Search Plus (EBSCO):
    Full text articles from more than 140 popular middle school magazines, along with reading level indicator (Lexiles). Also includes biographies, primary source documents, photos, maps and flags.
  4. Primary Search (EBSCO):
    Primary Search provides full text for popular magazines for elementary school research from 1985. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).
  5. Searchasaurus-Elementary School (EBSCO):
    Multidisciplinary database geared towards elementary students.
  6. Teacher Reference Center (EBSCO):
    Provides indexing and abstracts for 280 of the most popular teacher and administrator journals and magazines to assist professional educators.

Using EBSCO Host and Other Electronic Databases

As you enter EBSCO Host for the first time, create a free "My Ebsco" account. This account will allow you to save your searches and research automatically between sessions.

  1. Select a database to search, such as Academic Search Premier.

  2. Be sure to select the following checkboxes:

  4. When you find an item you desire:

  5. Click on the title of the article (name of hit) to access the following additional options:
    1. Work with this article:
      • Print, e-mail, save.
      • Cite the article in APA or other format (be careful that citation is accurate to style).
      • Translate to another language.
      • Listen to the article (text-to-speech).
    2. Search more:
      • source: Click the title of journal to locate more articles in that journal.
      • author: Click the name of the author to search for other articles written by that author.
      • subject terms: Click a subject from the list to search on other related terms.

Select several of the following topics. Search for articles/books dealing with these topics at Ebsco Host.

  3. using PowerPoint
  4. use of PDA's in the classroom
  5. Constructivism and computer technology
  6. copyright as it applies to online resources
  7. graphics to use in preparing a science lesson on trees
  8. flag of a particular country
  9. map of a city your students will be studying
  10. information literacy and how it can be addressed in the curriculum
